On January 15th, 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) was officially granted the Approved Maintenance Organization Certificate No. VN-669/CAAV by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), pursuant to Decision No. 88/QĐ-CHK. This milestone affirms the airline’s technical self-reliance and establishes a foundation for the safe and efficient operation of its modern aircraft fleet.
Validating Technical Excellence
The AMO certificate is a key authorization issued by the CAAV, permitting SPA to conduct aircraft repair and maintenance activities within the approved scope of capability.

To obtain this certification, Sun PhuQuoc Airways successfully passed a rigorous evaluation process, fully meeting requirements covering technical management systems, facilities, maintenance procedures, and, critically, a highly qualified professional workforce. AMO certification stands as clear evidence of the airline’s commitment to technical credibility in the eyes of aircraft lessors and the international aviation community.
Strong Foundations for a Young Fleet
Achieving AMO certification at this stage carries strategic significance for SPA. In less than six months, from receiving its first aircraft on 10 August 2025 to February 2026, the airline expanded its owned fleet from zero to nine aircraft, a rare pace for a newly launched carrier. Notably, SPA operates five newly manufactured A321NX (A321neo ACF) aircraft, making it one of the airlines with the youngest fleets and enabling the early establishment of a safe and reliable technical platform.
In-house maintenance capability (AMO) allows the airline to progressively take control of technical care for modern aircraft types, ensuring consistently high fleet availability. This capability is a key factor supporting SPA’s on-time performance (OTP) and its ability to steadily increase flight frequencies. In December, the airline achieved an OTP of 93.5%, ranking first among domestic airlines—an exceptionally high figure compared to the industry-wide average of 70.7%, particularly during the year-end peak season.
Going International
Internal maintenance capability is also the final piece enabling Sun PhuQuoc Airways to confidently expand beyond domestic operations. With full command of technical processes, the airline is ready to implement its ambitious network expansion plans. From 29 March 2026, SPA will operate its first international route connecting Taipei and Phu Quoc. From Q2 2026 onward, the airline will further link Phu Quoc with key international destinations including Taiwan (Kaohsiung), South Korea (Seoul and Busan), Thailand (Bangkok), Singapore, Hong Kong, and India (Mumbai, New Delhi).
Proactive maintenance capability helps optimize operating costs and minimize aircraft-on-ground (AOG) time, thereby ensuring stable flight schedules, especially for future long-haul services.
Mr. Pham Dang Thanh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Engineering and Maintenance at Sun PhuQuoc Airways, emphasized:
“Being granted the AMO certification is a major milestone, confirming Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ full compliance with aviation safety requirements. We have not only rapidly expanded our fleet, but also built a robust technical foundation; on which the airline will continue to enhance its maintenance capabilities to ensure safety for passengers on all upcoming domestic and international journeys.”
Comprehensive Development
In less than five months, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has consecutively obtained multiple certifications and approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, including: the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with an expanded scope covering international routes in Asia and the Middle East; the Approved Training Organization (ATO) certificate; and the Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) certificate. These achievements reflect SPA’s synchronized, structured, and in-depth development; not only in regulatory compliance, but also in organizational capacity, human resources quality, governance systems, training, and technical maintenance.
As a young airline, SPA’s proactive and simultaneous development of the core pillars of a full-service airline within a short timeframe clearly demonstrates strong execution capability, system mastery, and a long-term development mindset.
In the next phase, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will continue to invest proactively in infrastructure, facilities, and technical systems, gradually expanding its AMO capability scope in line with the growth trajectory of its fleet and route network.

Connecting Phu Quoc to the World
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is Vietnam’s first airline named after an island. Invested in and developed by Sun Group, the airline follows a “hub-and-spoke” network model, directly connecting Phu Quoc with major tourism and economic centers domestically and internationally. The airline aims to serve Vietnamese travelers and visitors from around the world through direct flights, reasonable fares, and a seamless experience integrated with Sun Group’s ecosystem on the island—enhancing Phu Quoc’s accessibility as an international destination.
As Phu Quoc becomes a special administrative zone and is selected to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2027, the presence of an island-named airline with a modern young fleet, a well-structured and differentiated development strategy will contribute to tourism growth, global connectivity, and the elevation of Phu Quoc’s international standing. Alongside developing the airline, Sun Group has also taken over and commenced operation of Phu Quoc International Airport, marking a significant step toward improving service quality, expanding operational capacity, and establishing a strong infrastructure foundation in preparation for APEC 2027.
